About
Exhibitions, Shows, Education & Experience.
I spend endless hours infatuating over my portraits, which becomes an addictive and insanely therapeutic process. Paying homage to the beauty in every creature no matter how personal or lion-like they may be, my drawings instinctively re-define the chosen subjects by directing attention to the line making of my pen, as not trying to hide but rather showcase my techniques, making an obvious gesture to the process. By purposely making their existence seem so effortless and celebrating my mark-making instruments, my focus is largely on the process making of a work and the spiritual relationship this has with my animal subjects.
My portraits are always based on images, encounters or moments that have struck me to my core. Animals play a huge role in my life, through my experience in Africa, which strengthened this bond, and consistently working closely with animals throughout my childhood. Although I cannot say they are surreal, my obsessive gene makes sure they resemble my personal interpretation of their utterly perfect aura. They are purposeful and polite, they fit the space and they know their place. They are not here to cause trouble, they just want to be admired.
